Members range from those who do sugarcraft professionally to
absolute beginners, and our evenings programme reflect this variation.
The cost of membership is £20 per year and you pay £2.00
for each evening you attend. Guest fees are £5.
We have a number of social events including a Christmas buffet
after our November meeting, a New Year Dinner in January and a garden
party, which replaces our meeting in August.
A newsletter is sent out every month
detailing the next meeting and other events. Handy tips are often
given here too.
At each meeting, we have a library of sugarcraft-related books,
DVDs and videos that members can borrow. There is
also usually some second-hand equipment for sale too.
Sugarcraft materials can be bought in small amounts for workshops.
Equipment can be borrowed from other members so you don't have to
spend a lot to join in.
A further benefit of membership is discount at the sugarcraft retailer Almond Art (Little Clacton) (see newsletter April 2013 for full details). We also
benefit from our affiliation with the National Sugar Art
Of course, there can be a competitive element if you wish. We have
our own Christmas cake competition and a March meeting challenge.
We run workshops, for example decorating cupcakes and Christmas cakes, and
we give demonstrations, most recently to W.I. groups and at Colchester library.
Some pictures of our most recent activities are shown below.
We also organize trips to sugarcraft exhibitions.
We have had a lot of success with our mini-workshops this year. These
included ones on roses, poinsettias, Rudolph models and, our last one, Xmas
cupcakes. A photo from the last one is shown
